The main difference LED and LCD is that the LED works on the principle of electroluminescence i.e. it generates light due to recombination of electron and holes while LCD do not generate light of its own but control the light energy and modify it in such a way that some area of the display screen appears bright while some areas appear dark.

LCD uses liquid filaments filled between glass-electrodes that help emit the light, whereas LED uses the PN-junction diode concept, which is forward biased for the light's emission. In terms of the resolution, LED provides more pixels on the screen than LCD. The higher the number of pixels, the better the resolution and the quality of the picture.
